Homework for E-commerce

You must post most of homework on Canvas under the Assignment Section. Your Final project needs to be posted on my Website or you need to give me the link to the site you created.

Find as many resources (Books, Websites, Magazines and TV Shows) that will help you "Keep up to speed" in class. You should be able to find at least one page full of resources. (The more resources you find, the better the grade.) Business Week, Business 2.0 and Builder.com and Webmonkey are examples of the type of sites and magazines you should be using.

Weekly Review:

You should look for article in the news (from your resources) and be prepared to talk about what is "new & exciting" in Business, E-commerce, Technology, Computers or the field with which you want to create a business.

Domain Name Search:

You will need to find a name that is available and represents your company. Sites like GoDaddy and Network Solutions can be used to find a domain name(s) for your site. I also want you to cost out how much money you will spend for the domain name.

Business Plan :

I recommend you use Business Plan Pro to make sure you cover everything in a good business plan (make sure you cover the points covered on the notes page.) Provide a Word Document or PDF that documents your business . Your grade will be based upon how realistic your plan is and how well you covered the basic elements of a business plan. You might want to pretend that I am an investor who you want to get money from.

A summary of your Marketing plan will be part of your Business plan.

Marketing Plan :

Provide a power point or Webpage that covers how you are going to market the product you documented in your business plan. Make sure you cover the 4Ps of marketing and a budget for marketing your plan. You should also include a SWOT analysis of your business in the market you are trying to enter.

You should be able to answer all the following questions in your Marketing plan:

Marketing Strategy: How will your marketing plan meet your business's goals?

Mission Statement: What are you trying to accomplish, and why?

Target Market: Who are you trying to reach with your marketing activities? (one of the P's)

Competitive Analysis: Who are you up against, and where do you rank? (one of the P's)

Unique Selling Proposition: What makes your business unique? (one of the P's)

Pricing Strategy: What will you charge, and why? (one of the P's)

Promotional Plan: How will you reach your target market? (one of the P's)

Marketing Budget: How much money will you spend, and on what?

Action List: What tasks do you need to complete to reach your marketing goals?

Metrics: How are you implementing, and where can you improve?

A summary of your SEO plan will be part of your Marketing plan.

SEO Plan :

Provide a power point or Webpage that covers:

1. Which search engines you will be registering your site on (some charge for registration)

2. What Keywords and Description you plan to use on your site (meta tags.)

3. What title will be on your main page

4. Identify how much money you plan on spending on search engine advertising - Google adwords or Yahoo. You must spend some money for this exercise plus tell me which words you plan to use in your adword campaign!

5. What affiliate programs will you use and what social media sites will you create.

Your final project needs to be a complete website. You should have at least four web pages that link together. You must follow all the rules for good design you identified during the semester. Make sure you have Keywords, title tags and meta tags that help your SEO! I would prefer your site to be a real business or a business you want to start. Make sure you sell something (Product or Service)
