APPROVED MINUTES
FOR APRIL 23, 1998
1. Seating of the New Senate - Steve Platte
Steve seated Ron Brooker, Jane Marks, Hank Mancini, Kevin Arps, Renee Cornell and Larry Burgess as new PVCC Faculty Senators.
Members Present: Ron Brooker, Tom Butler, Muriel Coil, Marilyn Cristiano, Jeanne Franco, Jane Marks, Carmen Marquez, Steve Platte, Gary Quick, Fred Wieck.
Guests: Bob Bendotti, Sally Rings
Members Absent: Rene Cornell, Hank Mancini, Kevin Arps, Larry Burgess, Lois Roma-Deeley.
2. Call To Order/Approval of Agenda
The Senate meeting was called to order at 4:12pm
Additions to the Agenda: Senate Treasurer's Report, Faculty Scholarship
Agenda approved as revised.
3. Treasurer's Report - Mitzi Ferrell
Mitzi reported that the combined balance in the Association checking and savings accounts is $6,201.49. This represents an addition of $14.49 from interest and a disbursement of $94.06. Of the total dollars in the account, $2,015.50 is in the Faculty Association Scholarship Fund (additions of $235.00 by donation and expenditures of $500.00 for the Scholarship Award), $640.00 has been encumbered for the 1998/99 scholarship ($500) and the gifts to senators ($140), with $3,545.99 left in unencumbered Association General Funds. The Treasurer's Report was approved as written.
4. Election of Secretary and Treasurer - Steve Platte
Jeanne Franco was elected as the 1998/99 Faculty Senate Secretary and Larry Burgess was elected as the 1998/99 Treasurer.
5. Phone Tree - Steve Platte
Each Division Senator was asked to gather summer telephone information from their division members by Wednesday at noon. This information will then be compiled and a Summer 1998 Phone Tree will be created and distributed to all Senators at the graduation ceremonies by Jeanne Franco. This phone tree can then be used as a tool for contacting all PVCC Faculty over the summer should the need arise.
6. PVCC Faculty Scholarship Winner - Carmen Marquez/Marilyn Cristiano
The PVCC Faculty was proud to present this year's Faculty Association Scholarship to Iran Rayon. Iran is a PVCC sophomore and plans to transfer to ASU next spring. Since moving to the United States from Mexico City in 1988 with her family, despite her financial constraints, Iran has excelled academically and has volunteered in numerous programs to help others overcome their academic and cultural challenges. Iran plans on entering the teaching profession after graduation, and looks forward to helping community youth reach their economic, scholastic and personal goals.
7. Setting of Senate Meeting Dates and Times - Steve Platte
The following meeting dates were established for the 1998/99 Faculty Senate, each at 3:00 p. m.

8. Adjournment
Steve Platte announced that he was looking forward to serving the faculty in the coming year, and asked for the support and assistance of each Senator to help him through the challenges that lie ahead. The Faculty Senate meeting was adjourned at 4:32 p. m.
